What can you do with 180 square feet of garden space?
You can do anything and everything with 180 square feet of garden. This tiny pocket garden on the beach in El Segundo provides forage for the incredibly endangered El Segundo Blue, sequesters carbon, and stores approximately 3500 gallons of rainwater in the soil instead of washing out to the ocean, every year. This garden on the side of a house, adjacent to the neighbor’s driveway, is now the homeowner’s favorite section of their outdoor space. We look forward to doing their backyard :).

Six Months: A rain garden runs along the side of the house, preventing thousands of gallons of rainwater from washing down the street and into the nearby ocean.
Six Months: Boulders help make a dramatic statement while defining the space.
Six Months: A pair of Eve Case Coffeeberries will be espaliered up the wall to fill in some of the vertical space on the side of the house.
Six Months: A Yellow Lupine is placed at the terminus of the walkway for the client to enjoy once it blooms since their favorite color is yellow.
Six Months: Dara's Choice Sage grows in as a groundcover that helps beckon the client to the end of the pathway to smell it.
Six Months: Carex pansa creates green bumps the counterpoint the tans of the rock.
Before Installation: The client was unsure what to do with two strips, 3' wide, between the house and a path, and a path and an adjacent driveway. Luckily we knew exactly what you could do with that much space.
